Geography at Holbeach Primary Academy
We use the local landscape including the Lincolnshire Fens to inspire learning about geography, starting with pupils’ own locality and extending globally. Practical fieldwork and outdoor learning focus on four strands: locational knowledge, place knowledge, human and physical geography, and geographical skills.
Our Approach
- Early Years
Geography is taught through “Understanding the World,” where children use simple maps, compare cultures, and explore the natural environment surrounding them. - Key Stage 1
Children study their local area and a contrasting non-European region, exploring environments and communities. They develop geographical skills through classroom and outdoor enquiries using maps, photos, and questions. - Key Stage 2
Pupils study regions in the UK, Europe, and North America, exploring human–environment interactions and global connections. They investigate human impact, develop fieldwork skills, and use maps, atlases, and photos to strengthen geographical understanding.
Vision in Action
Geography lessons feature pupils actively exploring places, using maps and digital tools, engaging in fieldwork, asking questions, and making local-to-global connections through practical, collaborative learning.
