What we are learning about this Term?
Spring Term 1 2026: Mysteries of the Maya.
This term, our learning journey is guided by the overarching theme Mysteries of the Maya, as set out in our curriculum overview. In History, pupils will delve into the ancient Maya civilization, building a clear chronological understanding while exploring their writing, number systems, beliefs, and remarkable achievements. Geography will complement this by helping children locate where the Maya lived and consider how the environment shaped their way of life. In Design and Technology, pupils will develop practical skills through creative projects, from food technology inspired by Mexican cuisine to opportunities for evaluating and refining their own designs. Art lessons will encourage experimentation with materials and techniques as children craft detailed Mayan masks, focusing on both form and expression. PSHE and RE will provide space for thoughtful discussion around goals, values, and moral choices, supporting pupils in developing empathy and respect for others.
Meanwhile, our class text, Journey to the River Sea by Eva Ibbotson, will enrich reading and writing across the term, offering inspiration and helping children make meaningful connections throughout the curriculum.
