Welcome to Chestnut Class

Welcome to Chestnut Class

Welcome to Chestnut Class. Our teachers are Mrs Booth and Mrs Fawcett. Other people who help in our class are Mrs Dawson, Miss Kerry, Mrs McCreedy, Mrs Rout and Mrs Rasel.

This term we will be looking at the topic "Will You Read Me A Story?" Within this topic we will be looking at traditional tales and fairytales. We will also be looking at settings of stories such as; casles, woodlands etc. Some of the stories we will be looking at will be; The Ginger Bread Man, Goldilocks and the Three Bears, Cinderella, Jack and the Beanstalk along with many more. We have our own fairytale castle within the classroom for our role play area.

Phonics- During this term we will be learning some new diagraphs and trigraphs. The children will be applying their phonic skills to read and write captions.

Maths- In our maths sessions we will be looking at calculating with numbers to 20 as well as finding one more or less than a number. We will be using Jack and the Beanstalk as a focus for our measuring also.

Reading- Sharing books at home with grown up’s is really important to help develop the speech and communication of your child. We began the term by sending out books with no text in to help initiate verbal discussions based around the pictures of the book and the child’s interpretation. We thoroughly encourage you to spare 5 minutes each evening to complete this task.

Homework- This term the home is split into various challenges based around our Topic. These can be shared either in their homework books provided or directly onto Tapestry. Again, the use of Tapestry is encouraged, and we aim to share any uploads that have been done with the children in class on Friday afternoons.

Maths drop-in for parents: The EY team are offering a Maths workshop for parents on either Monday 21st or Thursday 24th January. Look out for more information about this.

Spread the Word

We will be continuting to join local schools as part of the Spread the Word project. Other local schools are joining in with the Fairytale topic so we will be able to share some of our work with them.
