Important Things You Need To Know

Reading

Reading is an important part of learning which can be enjoyed independently and as a family. It is recommended reading takes place at least 3 times a week. This reading can include the book which your child brings home from school or any reading material at home.

Each pupil will bring home a school diary and reading book. Both of these need to be brought to school everyday.

When reading with your child please record the reading in your child's diary. Remember this can be their school book, a book from home, a magazine or a menu. Reading can also include sharing a book together, for example at bedtime. Below you will find some suggestions for reading comments.

When your child is heard reading in school this will also be recorded in the diary.

Homework and Spellings

Homework and spellings will be set every Friday.

Homework will be sent home in the yellow homework. Copies of the homework are also available on the website. Homework will consist of 1 piece of work with either a focus on English, Maths or topic work we are looking at in class. Homework will be set on a Friday and is due back in school by the following Wednesday.

Every Tuesday lunchtime a homework is available to all pupils where they can have support to complete their work. Homework takes place in Ash classroom 12.15 until 12.45.

Spellings are sent home on a Friday in the reading diary. Spellings are set by your child's phonics teacher focusing on the learning that has been takng place. These spellings will be tested the following Friday.

PE

PE is a key part of the curriculum and by law the pupils are required to complete 2 lessons per week of PE.

During term 2 our PE days are as follows;

Monday - outside - weather permitting we will complete the session outside. Pupils are encouraged to bring clothing suitable for outdoors. For example tracksuit bottoms, jumper and trainers.

Wednesday - inside. Pupils should wear academy PE kit including shorts, t-shirts and plimsoles.

On PE days please can long hair be tied back and earrings removed. If earrings can not be removed they will need to be taped over.

On some occassions we may need to change our PE days and therefore PE kits will remain in school during the term and sent home each holiday.
