Holbeach Primary Academy Honour. Pride. Adventure.

Physical Education

Holbeach Primary Academy recognises the importance of a high quality teaching and learning and active PE curriculum to encourage children to succeed and excel in competitive sport and other physically demanding activities.  High quality teaching enables children to develop competence to achieve, their creativity and imagination, and ability to excel in a wide range of physical activities, as well as participating in physical activity for sustained periods of time.  The school is keen to develop a wider participation in competitive sports and activities and continues to promote the importance of a healthy and active lifestyle for all the children.  Children across Year Groups 3, 4, 5 and 6 participate in swimming lessons to meet the swimming and water safety requirements.

Children in Year 6 will be swimming on Tuesdays 5th and 12th JUNE.  Those not yet achieving 25 metres will continue swimming instruction, while those already achieving 25 metres will have water safety sessions which will require a pair of pyjamas as well as normal swimming trunks/costume .

Tuesday 19th JUNE to Tuesday 17th JULY will see Class 6 (CHERRY) have swimming lessons.

School Games Cricket competition at Spalding Grammar School - Monday 4th June 2018

16 children from Year Groups 5/6 represented  HPA at the above event with 8 in each team.  The schools were put into 3 groups and played round robin matches against each other during the morning session.  Our B team narrowly won one match by 5 runs and narrowly lost one match.  The A team played against the eventual winners Moulton Harrox in their group losing both matches but performing really well so well done!  Most of the Moulton Harrox A team attend Moulton Harrox Cricket Club and showed the benefits of the coaching they receive there.  Anyone wishing to get involved in cricket should contact Mr Green who will put you in touch with any of the local cricket clubs.  GIVE IT A TRY!

Volleyball Competition - Holbeach Hub Wednesday 25th May 2018.

23 children represented HPA in the above competition today.  2 Year 3/Year 4 teams and 2 Year 5 teams competed in their respective age groups against a number of local schools.  The points scored for each match for each school was added together to find 2 finalists for each age group. The combined Year 3/Year 4 score of 120 put the Year 3/Year 4 teams into the final and a score of 122 put the Year 5 teams into their respective final.  Both finals were played against William Stukeley School.  2 excellent quality finals resulted in winners by only 1 point!!  HPA came out winners in the Year 5/Year 6 final and our Year 3/Year 4 teams lost by 1 point in their respective final. Congratulations to ALL the children who thoroughly deserved their respective successes!  A big thank you to Sean Hughes and his staff from Sport2Day for organising and running the event so efficiently and successfully.

Despite the rather heavy early morning dew, the KS2 School Games Sports Day event took place at the revised time of 10.30am.  A slight change to the original order of the events enabled the track to be drier for the running events. The KS2 event proved to be the most competitive one we have had with only 7 points separating all 4 HOUSES!!!   All the children adapted well to slight changes to the challenges of the multiskill and multiball events and all put in excellent performances.  Well done.  The event outcome was that Green finished 4th with 97 points, Yellow and Red tied for 2nd with 101 points, leaving Blue (Stukeley) the winners with 104 points.  Congratulations!  The KS1 event gave the children a chance to develop their fundamental movement skills, as well as race on the shortened track.  The afternoon was much warmer and the children coped extremely well showing great enthusiasm the whole time! Well done to you all.

Thank you to all the parents, guardians, carers, relatives and friends who supported both the KS2 and KS1 sports days and also the pre-booked BAR-B-Q lunch.

Volleyball Taster Event - Thursday/Friday 26/27 April 2018

Children from Year Groups 3/4/5 took part over 2 mornings in Volleyball coaching sessions run by Sean Hughes from Sport2day.  Despite some unpleasant weather on Friday, these proved very enjoyable sessions and an excellent introduction to a sport not as familiar to most children.  The aim is to take some Year 3/Year 4 and Year 5/Year 6 mixed boy/girl teams to a volleyball competition sometime during May to compete against other local schools who have had similar sessions.

School Games New Age Kurling Competition Wednesday 25th April 2018

8 children represented HPA in the NAK event at The Priory School where there were 10 teams competing.  Teams were made up of 4 children, made up from a squad of 6 children.  The teams were placed in 2 groups and at this stage our A and B teams were in separate groups.  The A team won 3 and lost 1 of their 4 matches, the B team won 2 and lost 2 of theirs.  This resulted in both teams finishing in 2nd place in their respective groups and had to play off with each other for the bronze medal place and 4th.  The A team won all 3 of the 'ends' to become bronze medal winners.  All the HPA children competed brilliantly in what was an extremely enjoyable competition, well officiated by The Priory School Sports Leaders.

The Daily Mile challenge

Holbeach Primary Academy have signed up for the Daily Mile challenge joining hundreds of schools across the country.  The aim is for all children to walk/jog/run a mile around the school grounds every day as part of their curriculum activities.  PE kit is not required to participate but would be beneficial to have in school EVERY DAY. If this proves successful we may even ask parents to join us.

Well done to the children who represented Holbeach Primary Academy at the above competition.  In rather cool conditions HPA competed with 8 other teams at Spalding High School.  Drawn in 3 group of 3 teams we came up against strong opposition in our group and lost both matches, despite lots of effort we had very few scoring opportunities.  After some well deserved lunch the children performed much better winning both their play off matches to finish 7th overall.  The children were by now getting more accustomed to changing playing positions every quarter, resulting in most of the team successfully scoring.

On Monday we launched a whole school house points system.  Every child has been allocated into one of the 4 houses - Blue - Stukeley, Green - Littlebury, Red - Carter and Yellow - Farmer.  We have also placed siblings in the same house.  The aim is to recognise, promote and reward children for their, effort, achievement and attitude across all areas of the curriculum and school life.  A trophy will be presented to the house captain of the winning house each week in assembly.

What looked like being a postponed event due to overnight rain actually turned out to be very successful. Fortunately, the Astroturf at the Peele Leisure Centre (the home of Long Sutton Hockey Club) drained quickly enough and once all the teams had arrived the children were given a 45 minute coaching and practise game run by Sports Leaders. This was followed by a series of matches in 2 Round Robin groups of 4 teams. HPA won 2 games and dramatically came back from 4-1 down to draw 4-4 in their 3rdrd match, finishing 2ndnd on goal difference in their group. The B team performed brilliantly to win all their 3 games to top their group. This did however, mean that they played each other in the semi-final, where the A team just came out on top 3-2. The B team then had a play off game which they won 1-0 to finish in 3rdrd place overall and Bronze medal winners. The A team lost 3-0 in the final but finished worthy Silver medal winners. The lady captain from Long Sutton Hockey Club spoke to the children about the club junior coaching and teams at the presentation. The event was again smoothly organised by Agilitas Sports and despite the afternoon rain was thoroughly enjoyed by all the children, who in a short time demonstrated growing levels of skill and entertainment.

SWIMMING - Class 9 - Mrs Mcdonnell - will be swimming from Tuesday 9th January - Tuesday 6th February 2018.

SCHOOL GAMES QUICKSTICKS - Year 5/Year 6 - Monday 15th January 2018 at Peele School - 2 squads of 6 entered.

SCHOOL GAMES HIGH 5 NETBALL - Year 5/Year 6 - Monday 22nd January 2018 at Spalding High School - 1 team of 7 entered

3 highly competitive round robin matches resolved who would represent Lincs SE at the County Finals in January.  Unfortunately HPA narrowly missed out.  Despite a slowish start HPA largely outplayed Spalding Parish School in their first match, but with smaller than normal size 7-a-side goals chances were hard to come by and the game finished 0-0.  Bourne Westfield then beat Spalding 1-0 in the second match.  Needing to win by more than 1 goal to go through the HPA goal led a charmed life in the first half, but they played much better in the 2nd half and finished with a very creditable 0-0 draw. This did however mean that Bourne Westfield progress to the finals, so well done to them.  Well done to the HPA squad who can be very proud of their performances.

Following their success today in the local area competition the HPA 'A' team are now playing in the schools finals competition.  The venue is yet to be confirmed but is likely to be in Spalding on Monday 20th November 2017.  I appreciate this is short notice. The matches are scheduled to start at 1pm.  The children will travel by bus to the venue and will have an early lunch, so either a packed lunch or hot school meal (if this has been ordered).  Football Kit will be provided, but they will need drink, shin guards and football boots.

Year 5/Year 6 School Games Football Competition - Wednesday 15th November 2017 at UAH

Letters will be going out early next week inviting up to 20 children to represent HPA at the above event. The competition starts at 10am and finishes by 2pm.  Children will need a packed lunch on this day.  HPA football kit will be provided, the children will need football boots and shinguards and suitable clothing to go over the kit for walking to and from the UAH and while they are not playing.  Please remember there is NO JEWELLERY policy at these events.

CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR 'A' TEAM who won the local round of the above competition today!  They squeezed home by winning 2 matches and drawing one.  Well done!  A VERY BIG WELL DONE to our 'B' team who despite losing all their 3 matches played brilliantly, showing true Olympic values of determination, respect and honesty in all their efforts, you did yourselves and the school proud today.

Key Stages 1 and 2 took part in our School Games Day on Friday.  The day kicked off with an Opening Ceremony in the school hall where Mr Rupert Gibson from Agilitas Sports outlined the day's events and declared the day officially open.  Year 3 and Year 4 took part in the 1st session with all the children either participating in Tag Rugby, Netball or Boccia house competitions.  This was followed by KS1 children competing in a range of multi skills events in houses.  After lunch Years 5 and 6 children took part in Volleyball, Quicksticks and Boccia house competitions.  The day was rounded off with presentations and closing ceremony in the school hall where ALL the children were congratulated for their participation and demonstration of the Olympic values that were the focus of the whole event.  This year's winners were the YELLOW house, so a special well done to them.

Mrs Shepherd's class will be swimming after the October half term starting on Tuesday 31st October.  Please make sure your child has their swimming kit in school on Tuesdays.  There will be NO SESSIONS on Tuesdays 12th and 19th December 2017.

School Games Year 3/Year 4 Tag Rugby Festival - Tuesday 17th October 2017

18 Year 3 children from Cherry Class represented HPA at the above festival at the Spalding Grammar School and Spalding Rugby Club fields on Tuesday 17th October.  The children had small group coaching in the morning session to give them the opportunity to learn the basic rules and have some playing practise.  After a well earned lunch they played a series of short 'tag rugby' matches in a mini competition.  All the children got themselves fully involved and their smiles as they tagged opponents and scored tries showed how much they enjoyed the day.  Many asked if they could go again next week!

A big thank you to Rupert Gibson from Agilitas Sports for his organisation of these events and the Grammar School sports leaders for making sure the children had an enjoyable day.  If any children are interested in becoming involved or finding out more about mini rugby please speak to Mr Green who has details of who to contact at Spalding Rugby Club.

Our Cross Country athletes at the School Games Cross Country event SEPTEMBER 2017

Our Cross Country athletes at the School Games Cross Country event SEPTEMBER 2017 1

34 children from Year Groups 3/4/5/6 took part in the above event at Spalding Grammar School and Spalding Rugby Club fields.  The event was organised by Agilitas and Nene Valley Harriers athletics club.  All the children performed brilliantly and it was great to see them encouraging each other, especially near the finishing line.  Unfortunately we didn't manage to secure any medal success in any of the age groups, but the Year 3/Year 4 boys and girls both respectively finished 4th in the medium schools event.  In the Year 5/6 boys race Bailey Taylor finished 23.  In the Year 5/6 girls race Lilly Warren finished in 53rd.  In the Year 3/4 boys race Finlay Clayton finished in 17th place.  In the Year 3/4 girls race Isobelle Holmes finished in 10th place and Lily Bennett finished in 12th place.  Although these are brilliant individual performances it is a team event so EVERYONE deserves credit for doing their best and representing HPA so well.  Well Done!!!

Well done to all the children who took part in the Quicksticks competition.  The cold weather meant that the event moved into the Sports Hall, but had an excellent turnout.  All 4 of our school teams produced some excellent skills and competed brilliantly, with one of the teams achieving 3rd place Bronze medals, narrowly missing out on a place in the final and entry to the Regional Finals.

An amazing entry of 33 teams, both large and small school competitions, on a truly cold day!!  Sadly this event couldn't be taken inside!! Again our children performed brilliantly, having their first taste of High Five netball, a fast flowing game to get younger children into netball.  Both our school teams tasted victories in their pool games, but unfortunately not enough to see them reach the latter stages of the knockout event.  They were however a credit to the school and were treated to a well deserved, and much needed, hot chocolate back at school for their efforts.  Well done everyone!!

YEAR 4 SCHOOL GAMES TAG RUGBY FESTIVAL TUESDAY 11th OCTOBER - despite a rainy journey, the weather at Spalding was pleasantly sunny, making the event very enjoyable.  Well done to all the children who took part for having a go, making new friends and representing the school so well.  Hopefully you will now want to continue enjoying the game and join our school Tag Rugby club on Monday after school or maybe even go along to Spalding Rugby Club on a Saturday morning.   Check their website for details.

Well done to all the children who competed in the Cross Country event.  Everyone finished the course and are still enthusiastically attending the lunchtime cross country club!

Holbeach Primary Academy have now achieved the Silver Kitemark!

School Games Sports Day - Friday 15th July 2016

Our whole school sports event took place on the Friday with KS2 competing in running, throwing and various relay races in houses, with KS1 children taking part in 8 station multi skills activities.  Many thanks to all parents, grandparents, families, friends who came to support their children.  A fantastic event with all the children competing with great enthusiasm and sportsmanship.  Thank you to all the staff and helpers for making the event run so well and for all their help and support setting up equipment etc.  Well done to yellow house who successfully defended their winners trophy.  But a BIG WELL DONE to ALL the children for making the event so enjoyable and exciting.

School Games Day - Friday 10th June 2016

Despite the early morning downpour the whole school will took part in our 1st School Games Day on Friday.  Agilitas Sports staff ran the whole day brilliantly.  Following the opening assembly, where Mr Gibson from Agilitas Sports explained the Olympic values that underpinned the day's events, all the children competed in their houses in their respective activities: multi skills throwing, jumping and movement challenges, hockey, netball, rounders, cricket and New Age Kurling. At the closing assembly, children winning their respected activities were presented with medals and the RED HOUSE were presented with the winning house trophy.  A hugely successful event that was enjoyed by children and staff, and looks set to become an annual event!

Congratulations to all the Year 6 children who took part in this year's Bikeability Training on passing both their Level 1 and Level 2 activities and for also being commended by the instructors for their excellent behaviour and attitude to the training, instructors and the positive encouragement they gave each other.  I hope you ALL feel very proud of yourselves.

Well Done to all the children who went on the above Residential Visit.  Lots of tired children by the time we got back to school but they represented Holbeach Primary Academy fantastically and hopefully had an exciting and enjoyable 3 days learning in a fabulous venue, with excellent food.

Year 4 children in Classes 5, 6 and 7 will be going swimming after the May Holiday.  They will have sessions on Mondays 13th June, 27th June, 4th July, and 11th July 2016.

Sports For Schools

Wow, a very hectic afternoon as ALL the children, AND TEACHERS!! were put through a 4 minute activity workout, involving star jumps, leg drives, spotty dogs and press ups.  This was followed by a talk from Roy Turnham, Paralympic visually impaired footballer, about his life and experiences as an athlete, then footballer, and his special memories of representing Great Britain at the London 2012 Paralympics.  Many thanks to parents who have already enthusiastically sent in sponsor forms and money.  Please can any remaining sponsor forms be sent back during wc 2nd May 2016 to the school office, preferably in a sealed and named envelope.   Thank you again for all your support.  The session was great fun, although the teachers may be aching a little in the morning!

Mr Lincoln, with the help of the School Sports Crew, has started the Inter House competitions on Monday and Thursday lunchtimes.  These involve children in Years 3 to Years 6 in a variety of different sports.  We kicked off with football and have followed this with netball and as ever these have been keenly contested.  Well done to all the children taking part and also a big thank you to the organisers and Year 5/Year 6 leaders who have officiated the matches.

A BIG THANK YOU to children, parents and staff for all your support on our school Sport Relief Mile Run day on Friday 18th March 2016.  Despite the dreary weather, it was great to see all the children (and staff!) rising to the challenge of completing a  mile walk, jog or run around the school grounds.  There were some very entertaining sprint finishes!!  As soon as the monies have been counted we will let you know the final total raised.  Many thanks again.

Class 8, Miss Pegg's, will continue their swimming sessions this term.  However, due to school trips and residential visits there will be NO SWIMMING SESSIONS on Monday 16th May and Monday 23rd May 2016.  Please note that Monday 2nd May is a Bank Holiday.  This means that they will have sessions on Monday 25th April and their final session will be on Monday 9th May 2016.

Arrangements are now being made for the remaining Year 4 children in Classes 5, 6 and 7 to go during the final term.  There will NOT be a session on Monday 20th June 2016 due to the Year 6 residential visit.

School are collecting vouchers for school so if you are able to help us please send any vouchers you collect into school.  There is a box in our school reception area that the children can use.  The vouchers will be put towards sport and/or cookery equipment.

School Games Quicksticks Competition

Well done to the 4 teams of Year 6 children who took part in the local area Schools' Quicksticks competition on Friday 29th January 2016 in the University Academy of Holbeach sports hall.  In all 20 teams representing local schools participated.  All the Holbeach Primary teams won at least one match and TEAM 2 won through from their group to play in the semi-final knockout.  They successfully won this 2-0 before narrowly losing the final 1-0 to Fleetwood Lane School.  Great to see how smart the children looked in our new sports kit and they were a credit to the school.  Well done to the leaders from UAH who umpired and helped organise the children.

Well done to all the children who played in the matches tonight.  Despite losing both the matches, Year 5 (3-0) and Year 6 (4-0) the children never gave up and kept pushing to get the goals their efforts deserved.  Thank you to Mr Lincoln for organising the matches and refereeing them and also many thanks to the parents who came along to support the children.

On Tuesday 20th October 2015 children from Holbeach Primary Academy took part in the Year 3/Year 4 School Games Tag Rugby festival at the Spalding Grammar School/Spalding Rugby Club venues. On a pleasant sunny day the children took part in coaching drills led by Spalding Grammar School Year 10 sports leaders during the morning, and after a short refuel at lunchtime, then played several 'friendly competitive' matches of 10 minutes each.  The children were all mixed up with children from other schools and had a great time, with some excellent rugby being played.  Well done to everyone!!!  The children were given certificates and also stickers showing how they had demonstrated the Olympic values in how they played and responded to the leaders and their peers.

Many thanks to all the parents who collected Sainsbury's sports vouchers for the school recently.  We have ordered some small pieces of equipment for the children across the whole school to use at lunchtimes.

This Summer Term we are launching the Legacy Challenges to Keystage 1 and Keystage 2 children.  Keystage 1 children have 4 challenges and Keystage 2 have 6 challenges.  These follow on from the London 2012 Olympics where the children completed challenge logs based on the Olympic and Paralympic values.  The Legacy Challenge is totally bespoke and designed to encourage our young people to be inspired towards a lifetime of sport, culture and healthy living.

The children will be given their own individual challenge log to record their achievements, many of which will be completed in school, but some can be completed through out of school, home and sports/other clubs activities.

The above are links to the Inspireplus website, who are the people who have organised and review schools who have entered the Legacy Challenge.

We hope you will help encourage our young children to enjoy sport, healthy lifestyles and develop into aspirational and inspirational young people.

HPA Football Squad at the Schools Games School's Football competition January 2015

HPA Football Squad at the Schools Games School's Football competition January 2015 1
Well done to the children who took part in the Schools Games Y5/Y6 Football Competition held at Spalding Gleed School yesterday (Wednesday 14th January 2015).  A 2-0 win, 2 draws and 2 narrow 1-0 defeats was a credit to their teamwork, with all the goals scored by Olivia Simpson.  Everyone should be very proud of their performance and how well they represented our school.
