Amazing Discovery at HPA
Our children arrived at school this morning to be told that a mysterious object had been found in the woodland area behind the train.
We have contacted the RSPCA who are sending an expert to investigate.
The children have been to observe the environmental area and discovered a large egg and other unusual evidence. We have cordoned off the area until this egg can be identified.
The children are carrying out their own investigations at a distance and will be keeping a close eye over the next couple of days for further developments.
We will keep you updated via the school website but please take the opportunity to talk to your children about what they have found or heard.
We’re sure all will be revealed by the end of the week!!!
Check back every day this week for further updates and an HPA exclusive video of our week.
Day 2 (Tuesday 13th December)
Today we noticed that the egg was still there but it had changed overnight. There was a 25cm crack in the shell. The crack was zig-zag shaped. We could not see into the egg as it looked like leaves had been pulled into it through the crack.
We had another look around the area and we found a new nest that was not there yesterday. Some of us believe it may have fallen out of it, others think the nest is too small.
We had a talk about what may be inside it and we wrote a fantasy story about it. Walnut Class have also made a flip book in DT of the egg cracking and a creature hatching out of it. We will share some of these with you later today.
The mystery continues.....
Day 3 (14th December)
Today we went to the pantomime so we did not get to see the egg. Mrs Tully told us that the egg is still where it was and that the crack is now a little longer, measuring 35cm.
We will have a closer look at it tomorrow morning.
PLEASE PLEASE DO HAVE A LOOK AT IT BUT STAY BEHIND THE BARRIER AND DO NOT TOUCH THE EGG.
We did a drawing in art of what some of thought was inside the egg.
What do you think is inside?
Day 4 (Thursday 15th December 2016
Today we discovered that the egg had HATCHED overnight!! The egg was cracked open and there was nothing inside it. There looked to be scratch marks on the inside and outside of the egg, and there were lots of wet, muddy leaves inside and around it too.
